Why we made this

The Trailmaster is our original and best selling model and over the years, we’ve experimented with many different cover materials. Eventually we managed to find and apply this beautiful thick leather and have been incredibly pleased with the results. The leather is very durable and can be treated with various conditioners over time to realize an excellent lifespan. It's a lovely combination of classic material, applied to a modern trail-oriented design!

Lynx DT Mountain Bike Saddle Chromag Bikes MTB seats
Durable Top

Our DT (Durable Top) is a synthetic covering for riders who see a lot of wet weather or for DH and Freeride applications where extra durability is needed.

Available on Lynx DT, Mood DT and Trailmaster DT.

Note: Most of our LTD models use more exotic materials and as such, don't use the DT.

Cro-Mo Rails

We use cr-mo (Chromoly Steel) rails on all of our saddles for tried and tested strength and durability.

Saddle FAQ's

For "trail" riding, a good rule of thumb is level with the ground on a flat surface. In other words, horizontal.

Tipping the nose down can aid in comfort on steep climbs, however DJ and DH riders tend to lift the nose above the horizontal, for extra leg control.

Yes! We have a demo fleet of saddles available at Chromag HQ in Whistler.

In short, yes.

Leather saddles can be treated with surface conditioners.  Check with your local hardware store, shoe maker or leather specialist for available products.  Note that different conditioners can have different effects on the leather (IE. softening or discoloration).  The user takes all responsibility for the results of any treatments applied to the saddle.

It’s important to know that the cover of a saddle is made of soft material and by that nature, it will start changing from the day you start using it.

Leather saddles are likely to go through more change than DT saddles. (See aftercare)

The denim and canvas LTD editions are expected to both absorb dirt, and wear in organic ways.

You can read the full user guide here, but to avoid any kind of creaking, make sure the rails and the seatpost clamp are spotlessly clean!

If something is creaking, remove the saddle from the post and make sure the rails and clamps are clean. You'd be amazed how much noise a bit of dirt can make.

As for the finish, any DT saddles don't really need any aftercare. However it's not a bad idea to treat any leather saddle with some high quality leather treatment from time to time (like you might use for leather gloves for example).

My favourite saddle for comfort and speed. And in green leather! Support where you need it.

This is my second Trailmaster LTD. Have them on both of my bikes now and they have changed how I view my comfort level with a saddle drastically. Long days on the bike are no longer an issue.

Great saddle

The tip is wider than most which makes steep climbs easier on the boshank. Love the brown leather too

Trail Master LTD - Used at the 2024 Leadville Trail 100

The Trail Master LTD has resolved all my road rash issues within about 3 weeks after installing it on my mountain bike. And in that short time I rode the 2024 Leadville Trail 100 and had no saddle sore issues and I did not even once during the race think about saddle issues. Best saddle I have ever purchased.

Reliable and comfortable

This is a replacement for my first Trailmaster LTD. And it’s exactly what I wanted. Love the comfort and the durability of the full leather.

Great saddles

Bought one 4 years ago. Still going strong. Bought another for second MTB. So good I was prepared to import it from Canada to UK. How about a UK distributor? The UK vat was quite spicy

Great for the Trails

I am a Chromag athlete. This saddle has been incredible over the last few seasons of trail riding. It is super comfortable on the climbs, but also out of your way on the descents. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and stylish saddle.

Seat rails look strong, finish is sweet. Also everyone at the bike park knows I’m cool because I have Chromag parts.

Too bad

This is the worst seat ever. How is everyone saying it’s comfortable. It’s absolutely NOT. Did 3 x 10km rides over 4 days around town, and I had to take it off. It’s honestly terrible. Looks so good, but has zero comfort. Pretty upset I waited so long for this and it cost so much, to be disappointed.

Hi Andrew,
Sorry to hear this saddle wasn't for you. We want people to be stoked on our products and we'd like to find you a saddle that works. Please email me at orders@chromagbikes.com and we can figure something out for you.

Classy and comfy

On my 3rd Trailmaster LTD, not that I've gone through them, but they're on 3 different bikes. They get better and smoother with age, and always bounce back after a mud affair. Plus a number of first time viewers have thought they were wood, so there's that :/.
Love this saddle!

Wow

Hard to put into words the comfort of this saddle. Have been running the old ti railed version for close to 15 years on multiple bikes and it's still insanely functional and comfortable. Moved it to my gravel bike for a few century rides last summer and realizing I really need to get a few more for the other bikes in the quiver. Would love to see these offered with ti rails again. Carbon shell would be next level!

Great saddle.

I was a bit Leary about buying a $170 saddle but it was leather and made by Chromag so I just pulled the trigger and bought it. So glad I did. I really am liking the leather and the size. The leather lets me move in the saddle more but still have control over body position and this thing is really comfy. In fact I was really surprised how comfortable it is. My only complaint is it has a bit of a creak at times but doesn’t bother me anymore. Got in in pine to match my bike and it fits in perfect. Thanks Chromag again.

Gets better with age

This is the best saddle I’ve used. It has held up through multiple seasons of wet north shore riding, and is super comfortable for all-day epics. I love how it takes on its own unique patina as you use it. Another solid, well-made product from Chromag.

Super comfy saddle

I have one of the fancy old ones with ti rails, and I'm a big fan. I've never liked Chammys but sometimes wore one on long/hardtail rides. It's not needed with this saddle though, it's got a great shape and we'll padded.

My favorite

I’ve ridden bikes for a while and worked in the industry awhile. The trailmaster is my favorite part, I’ve got them in all my bikes. Just a perfect shape. My Green LTD specifically, but I also have the DT saddles on my mountain bikes for cost reasons. I’m not a chamois wearer, and the full leather top is great for bikepacking and longer rides. Wanted to leave a positive review as I checked here to see if there were any available direct, because all distributors are out. I hope they get that boat unstuck soon!

The first saddle in 20+ years of riding that I have to grease

I bought this saddle for 2 reasons; a) to match my custom build with a sweet looking saddle. b) to keep my build Canadian as possible. I'm disappointed. My saddle finish in Coffee couldn't last more than one went Northshore ride where my a$$ got muddy and ultimately chafed the seat, ruining it. The rails on the ~$150 saddle creak more than anything I've heard on a bike. You can mitigate this by greasing the rails, but come-on. Super annoying when you pay that much for a saddle. The 2 stars are mostly for how beautiful the post was new.

My favourite MTB saddle

This saddle has been well worth the investment, it's comfortable for all day rides, and looks great! Having had a leather saddle on my road bike for over a decade, it's amazing to find one that works for my trail bike!

Good Seat

I have the first generation LTD with the Ti rails. I bought it brand new years ago. I can’t count how many times this seat has been bashed on just about everything. Out side of some minor scaring this seat is amazing. It’s durable, cushy, and lite. I wish they still made this seat with the Ti rails, but it is what it is.

Thanks Steven!
We loved the bling factor of the Ti rails as well. Realistically they only save a few grams with a decent increase in cost, so they have been left out of our line in recent years.

Best saddle I’ve owned

I have two of these, one on my gravel bike, the other on my trial bike. Never used a saddle like these before, unbelievably comfortable, especially on 4+ hour rides. Leather is extremely durable if you make sure you treat it regularly with some kind of leather creme. I’ve had both my saddles for over 5 years now and neither look even close to the end of their lives.

The Best Saddle on the Planet

For more than 20 years, I just accepted penis numbness from my saddle as a part of what it meant to ride bikes, especially on longer rides. Enter the Trailmaster - the first (and most) comfortable saddle I have ever had the pleasure of sitting on. This medium sized saddle will turn short, numb rides into day-long outings where you can focus on what matters, the ride. The LTD leather has a durable and luxurious feel and is my stock saddle on all my bikes. Thanks Chromag for making a saddle that looks damn sexy and literally changed how I feel when I sit on my bike. Get one - you won't regret it.

My favorite seat ever!

I've been looking for a while to find a seat that feels comfortable without being too cushy or too heavy. This seat is a little heavier and more expensive than most seats but not that much. But to me, it's worth the small sacrifice in weight and cost for such a high quality, good looking and comfortable seat. I put this seat on all my bikes now. It gives the bike a prestigious air about it, like Mercedes or Ferrari. Thumbs up!
